Monthly Column, Coaching, Natural Foods Convention, and the How Public Consciousness is Changing

News Flash: I am now writing the monthly “Go Gluten Free” column for Better Nutrition, a complementary magazine distributed in natural food stores across the United States. You can look for it at a natural food store near you. The magazine ran my first column in its March issue – and I’ve already written the next several columns.

I’m delighted about the opportunity. However, the column is relatively short, which means I have to be very concise in my writing. If you have a brief, interesting personal story about eating gluten free or fine-tuning the gluten-free diet for better health – or if you have a provocative news tip or idea for me to follow up on – I’d love to hear from you. Please email me at this address.

Here are a few against-the-grain tidbits I became aware of within the last year:

  • The View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck mentioned how much better she has felt since she learned she had celiac disease and went on a gluten-free diet.
  • An article raised the possibility that the late President John F. Kennedy may have had undiagnosed celiac disease.
  • Ex-President Bill Clinton said on the Rachel Ray show last year that he has a mild intolerance to wheat and avoids it.
  • Alison Sweeney’s character, Sami, on the Days of Our Lives daytime soap opera ordered “a turkey burger with no bun” in a recent episode. (Alison Sweeney also is the host of “The Biggest Loser” TV show about losing weight.)
  • In an episode that aired last year, one of the characters on “Men in Trees” on ABC said she made gluten-free Asian dumplings for her husband – something that was very surprising to hear in a mainstream TV show!

These are all interesting tidbits that taken together show a gradual but undeniable change in consciousness: Bit by bit, people are slowly coming around to the idea that grains aren’t the holier-than-thou foods people thought they were.

As a reporter, I’m always looking for interesting little tips like those mentioned above. If you have any news tips or personal stories about grain-related health topics to share with me, please post a comment or email me.

Another News Flash: I received requests from people that I offer more in-depth, extended, coaching work with individuals. In response to that, I am now offering one-on-one Nutrition Coaching Programs for both New Clients and for Clients Who Have Worked with Me Before. If you need more concentrated time than a counseling session or two – and want to work with a nutritionist who specializes in therapeutic gluten-free or grain diets – consider signing up for a nutrition coaching program with me. There’s a great bonus that comes with that: Anyone who purchases a nutrition coaching program gets a One-Year Going Against the Grain Group membership absolutely FREE! That means ongoing education and support, such as coverage of the best (and worst) new food products for against-the-grain eating from a nutritionist’s point of view. This week I am heading off to Anaheim, California, to the Natural Products Expo West, the largest natural products convention in the world (I think). If you join the Going Against the Grain Group – or purchase a coaching program and get your bonus of a Going Against the Grain Group membership free — you’ll get the insider information about the products within a few weeks. To view Nutrition Coaching Program rates, click here (if you’re a new client) or here (if you’re already a client of mine).

I have worked with Melissa for almost 3 months now and it has totally changed the way I even think about food and grains. My health is much better and even the advice she gave me on different supplements has made me feel so much better! Thank you Melissa!

  • Thank you, Cindy, for the unexpected compliment!

I will try to write a post on this so your comment doesn’t get buried in this comment section without people seeing it.

I’m really glad the coaching has helped you so much!
