Leading Gluten Expert to Speak on the Benefits of Gluten-Free for Everybody

by Melissa Diane Smith

Ready for groundbreaking information on the adverse health effects of gluten? Look no further than my like-minded colleague and good friend, Dr. Rodney Ford, a prolific author and recognized gluten-sensitivity expert from New Zealand, who is on a speaking tour in the United States right now and has authored a new book, Gluten: ZERO Global, explaining reasons why he believes gluten is harmful to everyone on the planet in the long run, even people who do not think they are gluten sensitive.

In the southwest, the public has an opportunity to hear Dr. Ford share this enlightening information when he speaks after a gluten-free luncheon in Tucson at the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort, 245 East Ina Road, on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Tickets must be purchased and paid for by September 22nd. For more details about his appearance in Tucson and to purchase a ticket to hear this dynamic speaker with a caring, down-to-earth wit and charm, visit this Southern Arizona Celiac Support page about the event.

Up until now there has not been a book written for the sole purpose of helping people understand the reasons why all of us should go for zero gluten for optimal health. In my exclusive upcoming interview with Dr. Ford, he will share how he pieced the information together that led him to the conclusion that everyone would be better off with no gluten in his or her diet.

Briefly, Dr. Ford is a medical doctor, pediatrician, and gastroenterologist, and he says he would rather see a child helped by a change in diet rather than being put on prescription medications.

“I am promoting diet, not drugs. This is what it is all about… and of course the pharmaceutical world is not happy about this idea!” Dr. Ford says.

“Have you noticed that more and more people are adopting a gluten-free diet?” he says. “Have you seen that an increasing number of doctors are endorsing the concept of a gluten-free environment? Research into gluten-related disorders shows that you do not have to have the condition of celiac disease to benefit from a gluten-free diet.”

As evidence of that, Dr. Ford points to a recent paper “Spectrum of gluten-related disorders” in BMC Medicine, in which fifteen of the most prominent celiac doctors acknowledge the serious nature of gluten-related illness. The consensus concludes that: “The high frequency and wide range of adverse reactions to gluten raise the question as to why this dietary protein is toxic for so many individuals in the world.” Also, “all individuals, even those with a low degree of risk, are… susceptible to some form of gluten reaction during their life span.”

Even though many people’s doctors don’t yet acknowledge widespread adverse health effects from consuming gluten, the public is gradually learning that they feel better not eating gluten.

“Health-aware people are already quitting gluten in droves, this is an unstoppable trend. Gluten has been shown to be the cause of a huge number of today’s illnesses. Stopping the manufacture and consumption of gluten-foods will reduce a substantial proportion of the world’s sickness,” Dr. Ford says.

He goes into more detail why he believes everyone would benefit from going gluten-free in Gluten ZERO Global. Be sure to catch his presentation in Tucson or see more presentations he is doing around the country on his tour.
