Short Movie & Talk on GMOs Sept. 3

Do you sometimes feel like you’ve missed the basics about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that are hidden in our foods? If so, I’ve got a great event for you!

On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., I will be giving a primer on GMOs entitled “The Unhealthy Truth about GMOs Hidden in Our Food” at the University of Arizona Agriculture Center SmartClassroom, 1951 E. Roger Road, in Tucson. The first part of the presentation will be a 28-minute movie, then I’ll give a short talk with current information on GMOs, followed by a question and answer session.

I find that people pick up a lot of information quickly when watching movies. The film I will be showing, “Hidden Dangers in Kids’ Meals,” really should be called “Hidden Dangers in Our Meals.” It gives a great overview of GMOs, what they are, how the FDA’s own scientists warned against them, and how GMOs affect us all and the future of our food. It will be followed by my explaining important information we have learned about GMOs since the movie was made.

This event for the monthly Tucson Aquaponics Project meeting is free and open to the public. For more info and a link to a map to the location, visit the Tucson Aquaponics Project meetup page.

Note: It is very dark outside the classroom and in the parking lot, so I recommend that you take a flashlight with you to the presentation to make it safer and easier to get back to your car.
