Read This If You’re Going to the Pima County Board of Supervisors Meeting, Tuesday Morning, Dec. 13

Planning on going to the Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting at 130 W. Congress Avenue at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13th, to keep the pressure on the supervisors and tell them to vote NO on the outrageous proposal to give Monsanto a tax break? Although the tax break for Monsanto is not on the meeting agenda, the public can still speak about it, and we want the board see that the public is not going to leave this issue alone!

If you plan to go, here are some things you should know:

  • Consider bringing snacks or mini-meals. It’s better to bring a little extra fuel in case you need it if the meeting goes long.
  • Do not bring glass bottles, knives, or anything else that won’t make it through security.
  • There is no limit to how many people can speak on this issue during the Call to Action. The more people we have passionately speaking against Pima County giving a tax break for Monsanto, the more pressure we put on the supervisors to vote against it.
  • If you wish to speak, be sure to fill out a card when you first arrive, and check Call to Action.
  • Make sure your statement runs no longer than 3 minutes, or you will be stopped from completing it.
  • Make your statement your own. We need people speaking from many different perspectives and backgrounds. Don’t ever think that what you have to say isn’t important. It is.
  • If you want to come to the meeting but don’t wish to give a statement, the best strategy is to still fill out a card, check Call to Action, and when your name is called, say, “I do not wish to give a statement, but I want to go on record as saying I vehemently oppose a tax break for Monsanto” or something to that effect.
  • We need a good showing of people there to continue to keep the pressure on the board! The more people who are there, the more of an impact it will have on the supervisors!

We’re fighting for the food system we want and deserve in Pima County, and there is no place for multinational chemical corporation Monsanto in that. Going to a meeting downtown may not be easy, but it’s important that we continue to have people speaking out against the board of supervisors even considering giving Monsanto a tax incentive!

If you need more details on Monsanto’s proposed plans in Pima County, see the original article, A Call to Action for Pima County and Arizona Citizens and Visitors. You can also get get inspired by reading what happened at the November 22nd meeting in the Call to Action for December.

Another helpful and powerful strategy is to watch the statements made by the public at the Nov. 22nd meeting:

Board of Supervisors Meeting 11-22-16 Part 1

Board of Supervisors Meeting 11-22-16 Part 2

Board of Supervisors Meeting 11-22-16 Part 3

Thank you in advance for continuing to keep pressure on the board and for your help fighting to protect the Pima County community that we love!
