Three more district public meetings about chemical giant Monsanto’s plans to develop property in Pima County for the purpose of developing experimental corn with experimental chemicals will take place January 17-19, 2017. Learn what you need to know in preparation for the meetings at a “Stand Up Against GMOs and Pesticides” presentation at Natural Grocers on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 1 p.m. This will be the first info session on this topic on the southeast side of town.
In the presentation, Going Against GMOs author Melissa Diane Smith will explain what GMOs are and the growing health concerns connected to GMOs and the pesticides used on them. She’ll cover facts about the companies that make these products and how this multi-billion dollar business has impacted other communities, particularly Hawaii. And she’ll explain the specific threat of GMOs and pesticides to Tucson’s environment and food system and how we can take action locally to help protect the air, water, and food in the Tucson community. See the Facebook page about this event.
She’ll also answer your questions, and copies of Going Against GMOs will be available for sale and for Melissa’s autograph following the presentation.
Smith calls GMOs and pesticides “the food issue of our time.” If you live in Pima County, now is the time is to get informed about this topic that has taken on new meaning and urgency for residents of Tucson and surrounding areas!
